The film, directed by Michael Di Jiacomo, is inspired by &#8220;06  (1-900),&#8221; a pic by Dutch director Theo van Gogh, who was murdered in  2004.<\/p>\n<p>The fest announced its competish lineup, which includes the  helming debut of longtime Hal Hartley thesp Martin Donovan,  &#8220;Collaborator,&#8221; a U.S.\/Canadian love-triangle tale.<\/p>\n<p>As in previous editions, Eastern and Central European pics feature prominently in the competish lineup.<\/p>\n<p>These  include Russia&#8217;s &#8220;Bedouin,&#8221; which focuses on the desperation of urban  Ukrainians; &#8220;Heritage,&#8221; a character study from Poland&#8217;s Andrzej  Baranski; and the Czech\/Slovak co-production &#8220;Gypsy,&#8221; by Martin Sulik.<\/p>\n<p>There  are two pics from Germany, Ziska Riemann&#8217;s &#8220;Lollipop Monster&#8221; and  Christian Schwochow&#8217;s &#8220;Crack in the Shell,&#8221; which both center on  psychological drama and ambiguous role-playing.<\/p>\n<p>Pics repping the  struggles and absurdities of modern life are Israel&#8217;s &#8220;Restoration&#8221; by  Joseph Madmony, Italian\/French pic &#8220;The Jewel&#8221; by Andrea Molaioli, and  Canada&#8217;s &#8220;Romeo Eleven&#8221; by Ivan Grbovic.<\/p>\n<p>Two stylistically  distinct entries are France&#8217;s &#8220;Not for Sale Not for Rent&#8221; by Pascal  Rabate, in which characters connect sans dialogue based on the helmer&#8217;s  comic books, and Danish\/Croatian pic &#8220;Room 304&#8221; by Birgitte Staermose,  which conveys three days in a Copenhagen hotel with action centered on  an unexplained gunshot.<\/p>\n<p>Spain&#8217;s &#8220;Don&#8217;t Be Afraid&#8221; by Montxo  Armendariz, who was Oscar-nommed six years ago for &#8220;Secrets of the  Heart,&#8221; takes on the taboo of child abuse.<\/p>\n<p>The East of the West  section, focusing on films of the former Eastern Bloc, will screen  strong work, including the U.S.\/Russian pic &#8220;Generation P,&#8221; Victor  Ginzburg&#8217;s free adaptation of the Victor Pelevin novel on the Pepsi  generation.<\/p>\n<p>Russian\/Bulgarian\/Azerbaijan pic &#8220;There Was Never a  Better Brother&#8221; by Murad Ibragimbekov considers sibling rivalry in Baku  of the 1970s, while Russia&#8217;s &#8220;Heart&#8217;s Boomerang&#8221; by Nikolay Khomeriki  examines the value of adult life barely started and Georgia&#8217;s &#8220;Salt  White&#8221; by Ketevan Machavariani looks at urban angst.<\/p>\n<p>Kazakh pic  &#8220;Mother&#8217;s Paradise&#8221; by Aktan Arym Kubat takes on immigration fallout,  while Bulgaria&#8217;s &#8220;Sneakers&#8221; looks at escapism on the Black Sea and  Croatia&#8217;s &#8220;Marija&#8217;s Own&#8221; by Zeljka Sukova is a gritty family grief story  that&#8217;s a documentary musical comedy.<\/p>\n<p>Bosnia and Herzegovina&#8217;s  &#8220;Belvedere&#8221; by Ahmed Imamovic focuses on the 1995 Srebrenica massacre,  just one of many pics that mull controversies and legacies.
